What Can You Do?

The psycho-educational evaluation will give families the tools and a "plan of action" to address successful learning. Parents can help your child in the following ways:

  • Interact with your child openly and acknowledge learning differences
  • Remind your child that he/she is intelligent but has a different way of learning
  • Identify strengths and talents, and encourage your child to develop them
  • Support your child's efforts to succeed
  • Be available to help your child with homework or have a homework tutor/coach
  • Be a role model by reading for pleasure
  • Set realistic goals and expectations
  • Work collaboratively with school staff
  • Listen to your child when he/she wants to talk
  • Appreciate your child for his/her uniqueness, special qualities, and contributions
